Hey Bob and everyone...
I'm looking for the best way to remove tar quick and easy with an old MF. The really bad, hard tar at the bottom of the rocker panel anfter years of neglect. Does Tarminator really work to dissolve it? How about Goo Gone? IPA?
I tried a Turtle Wax Tar remover and it sucked. Clay bar takes too long and you use a whole bar anyway. Looking for a strong chemical to do the job....TIA Steve

Tarminator is a good product for tar. I have never used it on "really bad, hard tar" though. I dont see why it wouldnt work. Maybe Bob can chime in too.
Scott
Tarminator is a very good product but I have found some tar messes to be even more than it could handle. The key is to let it soak on the tar and do it multiple times.
DON'T use Goo Goen or Goof Off. I have seen these products stain paint.

Hmm, really, I guess I won't be trying those!
What about isopropyl alcohol? I have had VERY good luck with it on tree sap (the grey, rock hard kind). IPA leaves the paint a bit "white" but any light polish makes it like new.
The kind of tar I'm taking about is like droplets but hard, and that has been on a car for a long time. Not the soft smeared on stuff that wipes away fairly easily.

I just recieved two new (to me) products from hi-temp for tar removal.
I will have to find a car with some tar on it now to try them out.
One is called Snap seal and the other simply Tar remover.

Let us know how those work out Scott.

you guys will freak on this
When I had the shop down here the supplier we had gave me the stuff to use on a tar spot.not just a small spot I am talking a spot 2 1/2" round like 4 of them.
he came down to take pictures of the shop and the spots
we used Methonal on a rag not soaked sparingly trust me any more and you will have to wheel the whole area cause it will stain very very bad.it came up like it was a piece of play doh. I would not suggest it to any one the is not comfortable with wheeling or scared. But that is what i used.I was professionaly trained with it.

The stuff I used from Hi-temp (tar & wax remover) is great stuff! no problem removing tar. I let it soak for a few minutes and it wiped right off.
3m tar and adhesive remover is awesome.

I have used 70% rubbing alcohol on "old" tar. It worked when nothing else helped.
