I was curious what you all use for the engine compartment to protect the hoses/shrouds after cleaning and how long the looks lasts. I'm currently using the Sonus Trim and Motor Kote but it's a serious PITA to apply although the results are fantastic when all goes well.

I use a few things...
303 Aerospace Protectant
Danase Tire Dressing
Four Star Rubber Protectant

To clean the engines I use P21S Total Auto Wash. I let the engine dry and then just spray on one of the protectants.

I use Amazing Roll Off to clean and 303 to protect

How does the effectiveness of P21S and Amazing Roll Off compare to a solution of 1:5 APC to water? I've always shied away from using the P21S Total Auto Wash just because of the price especially when compared to a gallon of APC.

Actually the P21S I was using this weekend was cut 50/50 with water. I LOVE P21S for cleaning. I just sprayed it on, let it sit for a little while and hosed it off. I let the engine dry a little bit and then sprayed it with Four Star Rubber Protectant and left it.

The price of the P21S might be higher but it is a really safe product. You don't have to worry about it being to harsh on anything.

I always recommend not using Simple Green. Simple Green can, and I have witnessed it myself, oxidize aluminum and fade plastic and rubber.

I will second this as I, too, have witnessed and been asked to repair such damage done by Simple Green.

Stoners Trim Shine was about the most idiot proof product i've used in years.

The looks are outstanding......

I use apc or engine degreaser first to clean the engine, wipe down remaining areas with some more apc on towel and toothbrush. Then apply the Stoners.

Party like a Rock Star.

I used Trim Shine on all of my motorcycle engine parts on my Ninja. I even used it on my black mufflers but it didn't last long on those. LOL It was a test though.
