Matt here, just new to detailing. Detailing to me at one time was watching my dad wash and wax and clean his 1929 Model T. Then as I got my first car, buying a lifetime supply of Turtle Wax.

Well I just recently bought a new car, that has inspired me to take my other car, 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix, Red car and bring it up to the standards it should be and to maintain the new car, 2007 Black Nissan Altima. yes, I said, BLACK. And I am learning why they say Black is a PAIN IN DA BUTT. But dangit, it looks sharp when clean, both actually do.

So I am trying to educate myself. Here and on Nissan's Club page and Autopia. Nissan for the technical, and here and Autopia for the Maintaining side.

Thanks

Matt

Welcome! Just keep on asking questions and you'll pick things up much faster than just sitting back and watching/reading. What engine in the Altima?

My old man still insists on trying to take out scratches with a terry cloth towel and chrome polish... I think there's a slight generation/technology gap.

I have the 2.5S. It is the first car I have driven off the lot that had less than 10 miles on it. We love it very much. Here is a pic.

That looks great in black. Nice tint on the windows too.

If you haven't already you might want to look at getting some headlight film from X-Pel. They've saved my headlights a few times from rocks and salt they're cheap compared to a new headlight assembly.

I just cant wait til my pads and sealant get here.

2 quick questions. Polish with no cutting abilities, do you need to work them in for the polish to break, or treat it just like wax? The polish is Car Brite Crystal Shine.

The other question is, how long if any, should I wait to put on a coat of wax after applying the DPS?

Chemical polsihes or polishes that polish without the use of abrassives should still be worked into the paint. You still need to give them time to actually do the work.

30 minutes tops. By the time you apply it and buff it off you can go ahead and top it with wax.
