I would imagine the chap over in the U.K. that was featured on Fifth Gear clears somewhere around that every year. On the other hand he probably does more Super Cars and Exotics in a week than I've seen around here in my lifetime:

It must be Paul from the UK.
Thought I'd analyze this one
Considering $1m in sales as a goal:
If the business operated 7 days a year every single day (not likely), it would have to gross $2740/day every day to reach $1m/year
If the business operated M-F every week, it would have to gross $3847/day every day to reach $1m in annual sales.
I think this is a more reasonable goal. It's also healthier, considering that we all eventually need at least weekends away from work.
How much are you charging for a complete detail? How many minutes do you spend on it?
Consider $300 as an average number
That would take nearly 13 complete details per day M-F every week of the year. At the $300 price, that equates to 3380 vehicles per year.
At this point, it becomes obvious that the financial goal can't be realized by one person at this price. However, 13 full details per day is not out of the question if you have a large enough MSA to sell to and can hire some solid performers to work in the shop or as mobile techs. I say shop because the logistics of every employee being mobile might be more hassle than it's worth.
Then, remember that these figures are not profit, but just gross revenue. You'd have to factor in all the expenses in doing 13 details per day. With such numbers and the subsequent organizational requirements and legal liabilities, a person must become quite the business person and less of a pure detailer.

Man that is a great job of breaken down the numbers.how about this.I know of a mobile detailer that as five vans.that run 2 man crews.I do not now how much he does in sales. But I would think it could be closeto a 1m in sales.
Doing straight Detailing for 1 Million in Annual Sales is absurd. Make it easier on yourself and branch out to the other "Reconditioning" Automotive Services. And I'll reiterate Detailing is probably the lowest profitability with the most work.

One thing to remember is that labor has the highest profit percentage before taxes(100% or 100% minus Hourly wage). You need to sell large profit big ticket items or have many employees to do 1 million in sales. You also have to have a lot of customers. LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION
I think the only way you will see 1 million a year is if you have several locations and they all run super efficiently.
