Before anyone asks..."Why are their Google Ads now?" The reason is because we will soon be moving to a faster and better server provided by Brad. I hate having members pay for anything so I just had Brad throw in a Google Banner Ad to try and offset the cost of the new server a bit.

Hey, whatever works for you. :) I know a forum owner who managed to pay his rent with just the income generated from GoogleAds. In fact, I have them on OCDetails and they pay for all my domain registrations and bandwidth all year long. Nothing too high, but it is good for a couple hundred bucks a year. With more traffic and more interested people on this board you should see a lot more revenue generated than I ever will. I always click the ads when I see something interesting pop up. I hope it works out well for you!

One thing I noticed about the Google ads is some are for your competition. I'm not sure you can filter who you want or don't want. Just figured why send someone somewhere else to buy products.

Yes, but this board is sponsored by his 'competition'. He isn't running google ads on his store. The forums are meant to be about open discussion about products other than what Bob sells specifically.

That's the way I was thinking as well.

I hate having members pay for anything Your such a nice guy Bob!!! I would hate to have you accept a bounty as well!!

Im in my second year with Google Ads and have to admit, its pretty easy revenue. There are ways to filter competive ads, but you need to be a rocket scientist to figure it out. Google has changed so much since I signed up with them about 18 months ago.......Ive tried the Amazon ones as well, but there was a huge difference in "clicks"....

Do you get paid for just having the ads load on a page or for us clicking on them? Just wondering, I could click on some to bring in more if that was the case. I use Firefox with ad blocker at home so I don't see them at all there. I'll have to see if they is a way to filter so it allows this site.

Does google pay based upon how often someone hits the site or how often someone clicks on the add itself?

It is kind of weird how the money comes in. It tracks the clicks, but you get paid more if the 'clicker' spends more time on the site they go to or if they buy something. When my site traffic is higher then my clicks are higher. Google reads the text on the site and pulls ads that are relative to it. That is why they are so great on message boards. One minute someone is asking questions about what wax to use and the next minute there is an ad regarding car wax. It works out well. Let's test something here....

I'm just curious what will come up on the ads. ;)

Just be careful on how you click on them. On one site I was a moderator on we lost our Google ads because a member went nuts clicking on them and it showed up as prohibited behavior. Bob's IP is logged, so if he clicks on them then he could get in trouble. My IP isn't logged with that account, but if I clicked 200 times a day then Google will assume Bob told me to do it and nuke his account. So click them if it looks interesting, but don't click just to give Bob revenue or else you risk blowing the gig. ;)

I also think if the same person is always clicking on them it could send a red flag since the same IP address would be doing all the clicking. That keeps the site owners from making money just by clicking all day. ;)
