When washing a car when it is really hot out the water seems to dry much faster and leaves worse water spots. I usually try to dry the vehicle off right away or pull it into the garage right away and dry it in there.

You rock man! You just reminded me I want to run to Lowes tonight and try and rig a water filter to my hose!

I never thought of mixing QEW with anything but regular tap water. That's an interesting idea!

When I wash in hot weather, I try to wait until a time of day where the sun is low (morning or evening). I wash as quickly as possible, keep all panels watered down, do a final flood rinse, then pull into the garage and dry. I'll wait to put away all my washing implements (hose, buckets, mitts, etc.) until after I'm done drying. In cooler weather, I'll put everything away first and then dry.

If I can rig up a wayer filter to my hose tonight or this weekend I will take pics and do a "how to" if it works good.

Bob if your going to rig up a filter to the hose, remember the filter comes with iron pipe threads not hose theads. Of course this depends on the filter.

What are you trying to filter out?

They have a filter and water softener that I plan on ordering at some point. Bulk of my business is SUVs and an awful lot of black suvs. In blazing heat and sun when I can't find shade this is what I do. I spray and wash the roof. It's usually pretty clean to start with. Getting the roof out of the way is a big help as I can move around much faster when I don't have to get on a step stool. Even at 6'2" I need a stool for most suvs. With the roof out of the way I wash one section at a time and rinse in a open stream (no nozzle) or a shower pattern. Doing this sheets the water and reduces droples so that spotting is not much of a problem. Years ago I used to have a quick connect on my hose with a nozzle. I had another homemade attachment that was just a 10-12" piece of garden hose. That works better but requires you to change back and forth often. I won't wash the hood until the rest is done. Right after I do the hood I grab my big MF (40" x 20+") and start drying. I generally spray PB's S&G as I dry. My method is use with a garden hose type setup not a pressure washer.

I plan to try that filter above over the summer.

EDIT:
I just ordered one. Basically it is the same thing I was looking at at Lowes except for this has some hose adapter fittings so it can accept a garden hose. Can't wait to get it and try it out!

Bob what are you trying to filter out? If you want spot free you have to go with DI. Even softwater will still leave spots. You need carbon filters to get rid of the spots.

Thanks Don! The city where I live has some of the "cleanest" water around and that means more chemicals. I get some bad water spots is all.

Let me know how it works out for you Bob. It's very appealing to me for cost ($50 or so with 2 filters) and the it can be recharged with rock salt. I'd love to have DI water but not going to pay the money for it. Right now I can clean such that I don't worry about spotting but if the filter above greatly reduced spots or elliminated them, it would give me more options.

Will do! So far the place seems great. It shipped like an hour after I purchased it and should be here the 15th I think.

Just a quick question, what is QEW?

Just a quick question, what is QEW?
QEW is a product from Protect All. It is really called "Quick Easy Wash" A lot of people use it in the winter to detail in the garage because you don't need much water with it so it won't leave as big of a mess on the floor. I don't even think you need to rinse it off but I could be mistaking.

No rinsing is needed. QEW is designed for washing RVs with one bucket of water and no hose. Car detailers adoped it as a low water wash alternative. The more obsessive types (like me :P ) will use two buckets filled with the QEW/water solution and about an ounce of Poorboy's S&W for extra lubricity. Use one bucket just for rinsing out your mitt before dipping it back into the other bucket to pick up more wash solution.

QEW is a very good product. I use it during the winter for washing inside a garage, and also during summer drought season when outdoor car washing is often prohibited. If the car is not especially dirty, I'll stick with S&W.

Sorry guys about not posting but have been busy working. Anyway, I use DI water with Auto Magic Wash & Wax Soap or any car wash soap you use. You get a spot free finish with little wipe down. This Surburban got the Mini Detail, in & out in less than 30 minutes in blazing hot Texas sun yesterday.
