Dumb question I know. Other then the obvious reason like the velcro coming off how do you know what a pad is no longer good?

Oh yeah and if the velcro is coming off, there is a product called Tear Mender that works great at repairing them.

Here is a link to http://www.tearmender.com/

I have used it on a couple of pads and the velcro has held up very well, even through washing. It does work good for patching clothing to.

hehehe I should have snapped pictures of my pads after I ran them across a bolthead on a bumper...can we say chunks of foam and a groove through the pad.

Sometimes the pad's foam will begin to rip. This is normal wear and tear and often occurs along the outside edge or within the centering hole (if the pad is designed with a hole).

If you work on single stage paint, it's possible to permanently stain pads with color from the vehicle.

When working on badly neglected finishes, pads can become contaminated with "junk". You won't want to reuse these on cars in better condition.

I generally use a pad 6-8 times on nice finishes before they get relegated to "beater duty". Then, they'll get 1-4 more uses before they're either thrown away or used to polish lawn equipment. :)

Wow, I must really take care of my pads. My pads look brand new and some of them have seen over 20 vehicles. I guess I will have to go inspect them again.

Yes I am a tight wad.
