View Full Version : Not good! Suggestions
Ok, I got a call just now from a friend of mine who has a awesome red 69 Mustang all custom. He has 2001 Stang suspension and a 4.6L in it. I guess he tried to get down his lawn equipment and knocked over a 16 ounce can of primer and it is all over the side of the car. He said he tried to hose it fof real fast but it was already set up. I told him to start with clay but what do you all recommend for this? He was almost in tears when he called since he built the car, including paint all by himself.
Thanks!

I know there are chemicals that people use but I can't be sure which. I've pulled off large blotches with a tar remover like 3m adhesive and tar remover and if necessary a plastic razor blade. Now a large blotch in my case was maybe an inch in diameter from driving through freshly spilled paint. I like the plastic blades but if you do a large area work slowly and check often.

hmm I am wondering if something harsh like paint thinner on a rag would work plus the plastic razor blade that Pharo mentioned.
I might add working VERY slowly as to not get it all over the paint surrounding the area and underneath the primer.
I would try it as a last resort but...That is a huge area to work.
Was the car C.C. when it was re-shot?
Thanks guys! Yes, the car was clear coated and he said freshly waxed but not sure what he waxed it with. I am going to call him tomorrow and see how it turned out. Hopefully he did not have a heart attack by then.
Why not just use thinner? Wash it off immediately after and then reapply the wax or what not. As long as it's clearcoated, there shouldn't be any problems using thinner if you don't let it sit long.

I will suggest that next. A lot of people suggested that as well.
Well, it was more than just the door like I thought he said. It was actuall the entire vehicle got covered in primer. He said he started to get it off but the primer caused the clear to bubble and it looks like crap. He called his insurance and they are covering it. It will be a complete repaint. Luckily he found a Mustang Restoration shop to do the work.

I tried to get pics of the car, before the accident, but he did not know how to e-mail them to well and they never went through. :(
It was red to begin with. I forget what red though but not candy apple.
