I see a lot of people using them twice and throwing them away. I personally use one several times without problems at all.

For me, it depends upon the condition of the cars. If we're talking about my well maintained vehicles, I can easily get 4-6 details out of a small section of clay. For a Poorboy's clay sized bar, I will split that into 3 sections.

If I'm working on someone's beater which hasn't seen a detail in a couple years, then I'd probably toss the clay bar piece after a single use.

No kidding? This surprised me. I use mine for a long long time. I usually just soak it in a warm bucket of water with some cleaner in it while I kneed the bar for a while and it is all clean again. But, I sure won't stop anyone from using a new one often...better safe than sorry!

I guess I'd be more concerned about using a clay bar piece on a garage queen after previously using it on a beater. I place used clay pieces into separate baggies labeled "Used A" and "Used B". The "A" designation shows that I would feel comfortable using it again on my personal daily drivers. The "B" designation shows that the clay is still usable, but I'm going to save it for cars that have seen better days. Garage queens usually get a brand new piece.

I usually will use 1/3 or 1/4 of a bar on a decent car twice. then I rotate them to glass, then to wheels for the last bit of life they may have.

it really depends though I have thrown away 1/2 of a bar after 1 car though...like AWD said it depends on the cars condition.
