View Full Version : New Forum - Eco Friendly Detailing
I think it's important to have a forum to discuss eco friendly products, procedures and more. There have been a lot of changes in the industry which have changed the way we do things.

I have seen a site who uses [steam cleaning. That should be eco-friendly, right? Cut down on water usage plus not using soap. :)
What do detailers usually do to make their detailing eco-friendly?

Freedom Waterless Wash seems to be the staple of some Eco friendly detailers in my area. Has anyone used this type of product so far? And if so does it perform as well as soap and water?

I've used it. It's nice for light cleaning, but I think you'd go through too many towels and product to make it financially viable to use on dirty/muddy cars.
One thing I've noticed is that there is a learning curve on how much to use and how long to leave it to dry. Too much and too long = stuck to the paint hazy smears (which is why I think it shouldn't be used on muddy cars-I tend to spray extra to help lubricate more).
If I have the time, I go over the car a bit heavy on the spray (hoping for extra lubrication) and then after I finish the car I go over it again with a lighter spray and more clean towels. Seems to work well.
As to the added protection... well... it's a nice thought, but I wouldn't use it as my sole wax. Beading seems to go away pretty fast. However, it seems to keep its "look" for a decent amount of time.

thank you. I am trying to find a waterless alternative as a mobile detailing business and I need to see if it would be viable. Yet I know where are a few other companies out there that have their own waterless wash. I am just not so sure on which would be a solid staple for my business.

Have you considered going with a rinseless wash like ONR or Ultima? I've talked to a few detailers who have converted to almost all rinseless before a detail.

Now ONR seems like it needs a bucket of water to be taken to every job site unless I can bottle it like Ultima. Do you have any experience with these products?

You are correct but you will only need to take about 2 -3 gallons of water with you. ONR is a very nice product. I havent had a chance to try Ultima but would like to try it in future. To me the rinseless washes seem a little safer than waterless.

I am wondering when we will see water reclamation systems being sold by people.

Yes there have been a lot of changes in the car wash/cleaning industry, I think that one of the biggest change has been steam cleaning, I have been using professional steam cleaning service sine I learned about them a year back, i have heard that using steam cleaners one can clean 15+ sedans with less than 5 gallons of water?

You know the answer to your question.
Several users, all with the same link to your organization. It's classless. An introduction and disclosure as to who you are would be great. Maybe we can learn something about using steam, without a sales pitch or promoting your company.
