This is something that I have actually been doing for years and it has been very successful for it's intended purpose. I am not talking about a service call like most service companys would charge just for coming out I am talking about a small fee that covers misc consumables, protective equipment, etc. This can apply to mobile and fixed location detail shops.

P.P.E = Personal Protection Equipment

When charged per detail this covers things we use and spend a good amount of money on each year such as gloves, ear plugs, eye protection, mask's, and the list goes on. It can also be used to allocate funds for other things such as tape, sprayers, bottles, brushes, equipment maintenance and so on. This can even be a fuel surcharge for mobile detailers.

What you charge is up to you based on your company and other variables, some of you may know that I have "other business" with several trucks on the road and heavy equipment and I can tell you that this has been great for all the misc things that don't get charged for.

Just be up front and break it down on your invoice like so.....

Detail $x.xx
P.P.E. $x.xx
Sub Total $x.xx
Tax $x.xx
Total $x.xx

Almost 10 years ago my P.P.E. was at $3.95 and is now at $9.95 per job. My detailing P.P.E. is at $4.95 per detail. I don't see why this can't be applied to detailing as we use a lot of things that I can almost bet are not figured into pricing most of the time.

This is nothing new or ground breaking but i thought i would share it. Please give feedback good or bad!
