as title says, any reason to start in the back yard other then building client list?
One thing comes to mind when your "building" a client list is not being able to afford a shop or mobile set up mainly because the work isn't there. There are a lot of guys who do nice work from the backyard, garage, etc and prefer to do it that way. There are more guys who do crappy work from the backyard too lol.
Are you just starting out as far as the detailing business side goes?

The question should be "Is there anyone who DIDN'T start out that way?" lol I think any professional who eventually opens a shop had to have started in the back yard at some point. Every profession is like that. The important thing is to realize that some of the things that work for backyard hobbiest detailers will not fly for a professional detailer. There is a lot of expense and red tape involved in going legit, but there are a lot of reasons to do so as well.
I think there is a certain skepticism that goes with dropping your car off at someones house.

I'm actually thinking about doing this, I understand the skepticism part but im also thinking about providing some type of entertainment for my clients while I detail their car that way they can feel more comfortable for their stay.

That's a good idea. However, you may find that your detailing work will take you much longer than you think. It all depends on what service you are providing. A full interior and exterior detail can take many hours.
