A few years ago I used some type of fertilizer on my grass that turned it into what I called monster grass after a week. It was so thick and green that I had to mow every 3 days to keep up. It was a pain but very nice.

Anyways, I can't remember what the product was called and now I have a few weeds trying to grow in the grass so I am hoping someone can recommend a plan of attack. I am looking for a weed and feed type product I guess. I used some Scotts turf something or other but still no luck.

It's not really bad but greener weed free grass would be nice.

Best of luck on the route to weed free grass! Hopefully someone has some knowledge on it for you, I will be waiting also!

I would like to know that product also. Scotts seems to be the best I have found but they have so many it confuses me sometimes.

I have used (above what my landscaper throws on) the SCotts 4 step system

1 year i did not and what a bad year for my grass.

i am woefully behind and have had a hard time finding this system. home depot strike out!

So I went to the place I bought the original product from and they said that it could have been a number of things I used but they no longer carry much because they had to pull several products off the shelf due to eco reasons.

So they told to me to try the Scotts stuff I already used but that didn't do much. I can't find the fish poo in a bottle anymore either, worked great for keeping the grass green using less water.

I wonder if fish meal will work like the fish "poo"

I live in the weed capital of the world - Florida. I have never had any luck with "weed & feed" grandular fertilizer. The grandulars have to set directly on the weed's leaves or stalk in order for it to work . To kill the weeds, and not the grass, I use Ortho's "Weed B Gon". It has to be applied with a sprayer and kills most every kind of weed.

In order to prevent weeds from returning, the weed must be killed or removed before its flowers turn to seed. Keeping your lawnmower's deck free from grass and weed build up after mowing also helps.

If you're looking to green the grass fast use a fertilizer high in nitrogen. The higher the nitrogen level, the faster and darker it greens. The nitrogen is the first number listed in the three number analysis rating on the bag. For example 23-0-12. The second number is phosphorus and the last number is potassium. These numbers represent the percentage of each nutrient in the bag. There are other nutrients and fillers that bring the total to 100%.

Phosphorus is not allowed in some counties in Florida due to the run off into the Gulf of Mexico resulting in the "Red Tide" syndrone. If you are from the west coast of Florida or have visited here when the Red Tide was in bloom you know how devastating it is to fish and other sea life. Thousands upon thousands of dead fish and other sea creatures wash up on shore. The smell is so bad it makes you gag.

If you are looking for a totally chemical free lawn application there are some companies using a totally organic composting fertilizer. It's sprayed on the lawn like conventional fertilizer but is 100% organic. Safe for pets, children and adults.

I live in Miami and like doctordon said weeds here are tenacious. My lawn is pretty good but now I have stickers growing, the ones that look like tiny stringbeans. And weed and feed does not kill them.
The thing with weed and feed is that if you use to much you wipe out your lawn, to little and nothing happens. So I'm going to try doctordons Weed B Gone suggestion to see if that works.

Weed B Gone it is! I might try some organic fertilizer as well so my dog doesn't get sick. When I did the first treatments I kept her to one part of the yard that was chemical free.

Checked out the Lesco website and they have all kinds of stuff, don't even know what to look for. They do have some equipment I want, but I don't need it lol.
