Before when I was just another cog in a big machine it was easy to get another cog to replace me for a week. Now, I am the machine. When I leave for vacation in a couple of weeks the shop will be locked down for eleven whole days. Any suggestion to prepare for my departure? I plan on taking my appointment book and phone with me. I'm not going to tell people I'm on vacation or I'm booked for the entire week, just what my next available appointment is. That way I'm not letting too many people know I'm gone but, I'm not lying either.
Lock the door and run as fast as you can! If they ask I would say I'm on vacation, everyone needs to get away from the daily grind at some point so it's not a bad thing.
Maybe turn off the water to the building while your gone. I've seen lots of people return to find water damage from a small piss hole that suddenly appeared while away for a week.

I was in management for the last ten years, the last four as a gm, so the concept of vacation is a little skewed for me. I'm not really used to leaving and not worrying about what other people are going to screw up while I'm gone. I actually starting to stress about being gone.

IF you are starting to stress about going then send me. I wont stress. Seriously, just make sure everything is secure and book according to your vacation and have fun. Vacation is to enjoy not stress about what you have to go home to.

Had a great time down in Destin. It wasn't too hot, only rained in the late afternoon, and didn't see any oil on the beach or in the water. There were a lot of BP guys roaming the beach and two BP helicopters doing tandem fly buys but, I think it was more for PR.

We caught quite a bit but, not to many worth keeping. Mostly sail cat, a bluefish, a sheepshead, and a ladyfish. Saw a five or six foot hammerhead when we went back to the pier for some night fishing. Would have loved to tie into that.
That hammerhead might put up a a good fight lol. Awesome!
