I having some misgivings about detailing an 03 Avalanche. Not the whole car but the tailgate. The tailgate is fiberglass and has some surface scrapes. The owner indicated his truck was hit by eggs and he tried to remove after about two months, now the scrapes.
Never worked on fiberglass before jsut want to know what to use.

Are the scratches in the paint or actually down into the fiberglass?

Feels like it is the paint only. Rubbed my fingernail through and don't feel any ridges.

In that case just treat it like you would any other paint. The paint is treated the same.

The impact sight should have a whole bunch of little scratches/pits where the egg shell cut into the paint correct? I wouldn't try to polish these out because I can almost promise you that they are into the paint layer or beyond. MOST of the time a repaint of the area is needed to make it look new again.
