View Full Version : Do you use a checklist?
I am trying to get good discussions going on the forums so if I seem to have a bunch of questions lately it is why.
I am wondering if anyone uses checklist when detailing to ensure they don't miss anything? It seems like it could be a helpful tool to aid in the final inspection of the vehicles.

Since i only do family cars, Nope.
I have a mental checklist, but not every time i wash i do the same things. Sometimes it is just a wash, simetimes a wash, wax; sometimes i do it all...
So there are mental lists, but nothing that i have wrote down... Maybe if i was in it for business purposes i would...

I dont have a list but here is some suggestions.
Exterior:
Wash/dried
wheel wells
tires and rims
windows & mirrors
scratch removal
polish
wax
engine degreased
Interior:
Door/trunk/hatch jams
window & mirrors
vents
cockpit
dash
seats
carpet front to back/floormats
trays(ash,cup holders,etc)
Center console
Thats all i can think of. When you detail do you take the seats out?

Maybe I could work on a checklist for people to download and use? That might help some of the newer detailers.
I don't take the seats out. I have had bad experiences with rusty seat bolts in years past and I don't want to be responsible for busting one off on a customers car.

nope, but since i have swaped my seats recently and still working on getting all the airbags wired up they have been comming out regularly...

Another good point why I don't take seats out. Now-a-days the newer cars have so much technology in the seats that it would not be a good idea to become responsible if someones air bag or safety device failed to deploy. I know on the 2001+ Hondas they have little canisters on the seats and when you get into an accident they sort of blow and put tension on the seat belt. And most newer cars have sensors in the seats for the air bags as well.

Ah good point i never knew that the SRS system was connected to the seats.

Yeah, I know a lot of guys who swapped RSX seats into their Civics and had SRS lights come on.

stupid design flaw why in the heck would they put sensors like that under a seat? dumb if you ask me!

I don't think they are sensors under the seat but an electrical connection that runs from the seat to the SRS. That si what tells the seat belt tensioner to pull and keep you in the seat. ;)

You maybe right we need one of those tech guys at Lear to chime in. :)

well for my focus there are side airbags built into the seat boulster.
There is a connection coming out of the floor, that controls the front airbags, seatbelt tension, and side airbags, along with *svt olny* power up and down.
I have all but my side airbag connected at this point because i need to trace the wires and connect it right.
Most new *05 + * will now be having passenger sensitivity pads built into the seat coushon, This tells the car that there is a person there or there is not a person there. This will also help people to NOT put stuff in their passenger seat while driving. In the result of a head on crash, they passenger air bag will not blow unless there is weight in the seat (only a few pounds sets off the sensor). Very simple technology and it also helps to save someone money as airbags are upwards from 700 bucks usually to replace them. At the dealer it is upwards of 3500 (in a focus that is the dealer cost to replace them)...
Just a bit of knowledge.
Also the canister is there to deploy compressed air into the seatbelt mechinism in the event of a crash within .01 seconds it deploys, sends the air and tightens the seatbelt to hold you from going bye bye...
Also after an accident, it is best that you replace your whole seatbelt and the tensioner because most seatbelts have a folded over part that is sewen together and when the tensioner goes off and pulls the belt into you, you still have momentum foinf forward, so the belt stretches, and the flap breaks the threads to allow you minimal seatbelt dammage to yourself and a softer "landing"
/end seatbelt knowledge

thanks...
Did a 5 minute speach last year on seatbelts...No notes, all memory..god that was an easy A
