View Full Version : New tires for winter on the way...
Well, I figured I had better buy tires for winter before the snow gets here and I am still on summer tires. I ended up with Avon M550 A/S. Right now I am running Avon M500 summer tires. I hate to even think about the snow coming. :(

Hmm
I was thinking the same thing but buy some summer tires if i see a sale. I have new all year tires now, but with me drooling over 22" rims next summer. I will try to find a good deal for those. Do you find it better to switch tires for the season? or buy all year round?

For the driving I do all year round would be fine. But, for some reason I went with a summer tire and then these all seasons. If I like the all seasons enough I will sell my summer tires. :)

Nice bob.
Seasonal tires are a god send. Currently i am running summer tires and then all seasons that i got stock with my car. I am also running 2 sets of Rims. My summer tires are mounted on my 17" rims and my all seasons on my stock 16" rims. Once those tires are shot, then i am going to a 14" steelie and a beefy winter tire to go on there.
A good way to know if you need seasonal tires vs. all seasons is your driving style, car type, and the amount you drive, and where you live.
If you tend to drive agressive, then 2 sets of tires would be wonderful for you. You may think that the all seasons are good enough, but once you go to winter tires there is a world of difference, but find out which are good and which tires suck.
Car type: If you drive a light weight vehicle then snow tires will help you greatly. They dig right in there and grab and get you threw what snow there is (be reasonable it will not get you threw 40 feet of snow :D, also if you drive a FWD car then they will help pull you threw the snow. they are a godsend. If you drive a 4x4 then all seasons will be ok but Snows RAWK.
You must drive enough to consider it worthwhile.
If you live in a area that is plowed 24/7 then really you are prolly ok with all seasons.
Lastly it is a personal choice of what you want on your car. As you can tell i am all for 2 sets of tires, and also 2 sets of Rims.
Yeah, I was going to get Hankook 404's for the winter because I loved them on my civic BUT now I have AWD and don't really think I need a pure winter tire. I might sell my Avon 500's and try and get some 17" wheels and tires for next year. But we shall see.
