Product Name:
Poorboys Bug Squash

Product Container: 16oz bottle with a nice sprayer

Product Labeling: Normal PB's quality. Says it can be diluted but I use it full strength

Product Characteristics: Very liquidy and light blue/green. Not much of a smell.

Product Performance:
Tar - doesn't work for shit, even letting it dweel and rubbing hard on the tar (I like Stoners Tarminator much better)
Salt - Didn't seem to work as a prewash but apparently I should have rinsed the car first then used BS. I'll try that then report back. I kinda doubt it will make much difference but I'll try anyway.
Bugs - Seems to work good. Spray on the front of the car, let it sit, then rinse off. Gets 80% of the bug guts off so you don't have to scrub them off.

I'm glad they call it bug squash because that's what it seems to do best. I question at full strength if it compromises LSP durability.

Product Price: Seems to be a reasonable price

Product Safety: If you drink it you're "a couple bricks short of a load"

Yeah, I did not have no luck with dilluting it either. I have not tried it on tar yet. I want to spray down the car this weekend and then take it to the self wash bays but I am not sure if I will have to reapply the LSP or not since I will have to use it full stregth. I think it needs to be a little bit stronger for sure.

I think it works about as well as tap water on tar so you'll have to let me know if you have the same findings or not.

I'll try it on salt this weekend probably for sure.

I use tap water to dilute it (3 parts water to 1 part Bug Squash). I've been having great results with this mixture. I used it as a pre-soak for QEW last weekend. It loosened up all the salt/dirt and the mitt just glided across the surface. For me, the diluted Bug Squash is a much better pre-soak than either S&W, diluted QEW, or water.

BTW - I spray the mixture directly onto the dry car (no rinsing first). I'm not using a regular spray bottle though. I'm using one of those pressurized lawn chemical sprayers. I like the coverage I get with that sprayer.

I need to get one of those sprayers.

I've only used it as a pre-soak for bugs and for softening the occasional bird dropping. I'm glad you brought this up because it reminded me of something I wanted to ask about.

About a month ago I was forced to park underneath a tree for several hours where some birds decided to roost and ended up with about 25 splooges on my hood. I used the 3:1 diluted BS to soften them up while mixing up my QEW. I noticed that as I came back to these spots 10-15 minutes later, they had turned a funny white color and the remains were sliding down the hood. At that time I wondered if there was something in the BS that neutralized the acidic content of the droppings?

Well, it has been way too cold for me to try to even wash the car. I am not a fan of the doors freezing shut before I even leave the car wash bay so it will be a while before I get around to it. :(

I did another QEW wash this weekend inside my garage. The diluted Bug Squash pre-soak method is still working very well for me.

I did think of one thing that might be somewhat different here on my end - I have a water softener tied into most of my household plumbing. So, my diluted Bug Squash solution is made with soft tap water. I'm not sure if this makes any difference or not. :?:

Also I was thinking, if you do it out side it might freeze on the car before it has any time to work? I know water is freezing instantly outside right now.

I use soft water too so that theory is out...
I just don't see how, if at full strength I did not see it working, how it will work any better diluted :?:

This weekend I took my car to the self serve bay. I sprayed the car off with Bug Squash dilluted 50/50 with regular tap water. I also added a few drops of Super Slick and Suds to the mix, no idea why, I just did. I sprayed the car off with the solution when I got there then sprayed the car off with the hose. The car came out MUCH MUCH cleaner than it does if I just use the hose and their chemicals. I was very pleased.

I am fortunate to live in the Pacific NW where is stays mostly mild in the winter and I am able to wash the car most of the time. Did you use a spray bottle or something larger like pressurized lawn chemical sprayers as mentioned earlier in this thread? How much product did you end up using?
I like the soap mixed in with the BS. Soap on the car just seems right!
Did you pre-wet the car first or just go with the premixed product right on the car?

I ended up just using a quart size sprayer I had laying around. I used about half of that which was 50/50 water and BS with a few drops of SSS mixed in. One of those chemical sprayers would probably been more efficient though. I just sprayed the mixture right on the car, no pre-wetting or anything. I really need to get one of those big pressurized sprayers because going around the entire car, pumping a spray nozzle just seems like a waste, like it takes forever to cover the entire car.

The lawn sprayers really save time and wear/tear on the trigger hand. I use an inexpensive 1 gallon plastic model for my Bug Squash mixture. I think I got it at Lowe's or Home Depot. It's light enough to easily tote around, but still holds enough solution to not require frequent refilling. I also have a smaller 40 ounce model, but it doesn't come with a wand attachment. The wand is a big advantage for reaching the roof of a tall vehicle as well as wheel wells and bumpers. The wand I'm currently using has a straight end. Next time, I will try to find one with a slightly angled end so that I can more easily reach the underside of roof rack cross bars.

I had one in my hand while at Lowes a while back but for some reason put it down. The lines where probably too long or something. LOL
I really want one for wheel cleaner but I am afraid that the wheel cleaner will ruin the sprayer pretty fast.

If you're talking about Spray & Rinse wheel cleaner, I'd say that it would almost certainly damage the sprayer after just a couple uses. I've killed off several hand sprayers with S&R. Even rinsing the sprayer out with water after every use just delays the inevitable by a few months. It's a great wheel cleaner, but you really need to budget for extra sprayers!

awd330, funny you should mention that. I have actually been looking for a better sprayer to offer. I use my old Griot's sprayer for S&R and I have had it for a loooong time. Since I used Griot's back in like 98 or so.

Hey, where did the Bug Squash go? I can't find it in the store anymore. Otherwise what's a good bug removal product? Bug removal is about the only part of the detail I hate doing. It really kicked my butt last summer.

I no longer carry it. I actually just sold the last of it on clearance last week. It wasn't a good seller for me and for 2007 my goal is to get rid of the items that don't sell. Anyway, if you want a really good bug remover I recommend two items. Four Star Citrus Power Punch or Stoner Tarminator. Four Star is my personal favorite. Use that along with the bug sponge and you will get great results.

It's all ready to use. It works GREAT on tar as well! Also, if you get any smudges from your clay bar, which sometimes happens, the Power Punch will dissolve it right before your eyes. Just be sure to clean off any Power Punch before claying.

Can the Power Punch be used as a sprayable pre-wash for the lower panels the way Bug Squash can?

And I just realized how what I said sounded. The 32 ounce Bug Squash did not sell...not the Bug Squash itself. We are thinking of carrying it in a gallon size only.

Would this interest anyone?

I haven't used any Poorboy's products yet. But if it works good I'd be up for it. Maybe it would make sense to carry the gallons and some 16oz samples? I'd like to try it before I commit to an entire gallon.

Well, so far, the PwCb and Natty's is the bomb! Have the Bug Squash, but haven't tried it yet, same with Natural Look. The wheel cleaner I liked, but they hyped it way too much for what it does... Trying to get the SSR's and BnB. Will let you know later...

Hey thanks! Let me know how it works. It's costs more than my other options, but if it works, it's well worth it. I hate bug removal. My normal secret weapon has been damp dryer sheets.

You can dilute Bug Squash up to 3:1 (water to BS) and remove bugs. You could try it full strength on really stubborn ones if you want. Another great think is that you could dilute it 10:1 and if you live in a winter or dirty area, you can spray the car down with this mix after you rinse the car off and before you wash. This prewash will 'melt' the dirt off the paint. The less amount of dirt = less chances of marring. I've said it before "BS is no BS".

Finally was able to try it this past weekend, and have to admit that I was really impressed! Bugs and bird crap just comes right off! I used a 3:1 dilution, and really happy with the results. This for me is a must get by the gallon. Now I have 2 by the gallon:

You know? I was tempted to try it as a bug remover, but decided to try PS's first... Anyhow, I promise to try "D" the next time I do my cars, which will be in around 2 weeks from now...
