-Water causes streaks with 4-90. (water that "escapes" from crevices/bezels etc. and runs down where you just applied it.)
-It slicks up the paint nicely.
-The "Tropical Oils" scent is nice!
-Helps boost beading.
-Leaves the car with nice reflecivity/shine.
It's called a spray wax (plus) but on the bottle the description more closely resembles a QD.
The bottle says:
"Four Star Spray Wax contains special color enhancers to give a maximum depth and shine. Protects your paint from water spotting and road contaminants. Use between washes to extend the life of your sealant or wax."
A website description:
"Four Star Spray Wax Plus is a water-based, super-slippery quick detail spray with a blend of polymers and carnauba emulsion. All of this plus the scent of tropical oils. What does all this mean to you? It means when you pull the trigger and use Four Star Spray Wax Plus you will fall in love with this product. Simply spray on a cool surface and wipe with a soft cotton cloth or microfiber towel. Four Star Spray Wax Plus is perfect for light dust and removing fingerprints. You can use as often as you'd like. This product is 100% non-abrasive and safe for all automotive paint finishes, including clearcoats. Use of Four Star Spray Wax Plus after ever wash will even help to extend the life of your hand applied wax or polymer sealant while restoring that "just waxed" sparkle and slickness."
So, It seems the "Plus" means light cleaners.
On to the review.
-Package/label: Nice bottle, translucent, so it's easy to see how much you have, but since it's not clear, it looks "sturdier" or less likely to crack when (if) dropped. Basic 4* label (White, black and red) with a gold sticker stating "With Carnauba". Black sprayer that mists nicely. Is an Off/Spray/Off/Stream type. Bottle might be considered heavy/awkward to someone less manly than I, as it's 32 oz. Has a ribbed and tappered neck.
-Instructions:Says to make sure the surface is clean, dry, (Dry is important.) and cool (mentions either use on cool surfaces or not to use on hot surfaces 3 times on the label). The rest is basicaly mist, wipe, buff. (followed by the next warning of "not for hot surfaces.)
That's all you really need to know to use it. The "clean" part made me wonder, as it's supposed to be able to be used on dusty surfaces, but I guess for safety's sake and for the sake of brievity on the label, it's probably better to say "clean."
Don't be using this on wet surfaces. If, after washing/drying the car you get trails from the trim, the 4-90 will streak. Not to say that the streak will never go away, mind you. You can either keep buffing with a dry towel, or leave the streak and come back after you've finished the car and take care of any streaks then. (assuming you are doing this in the shade ... and you should be, as the label tells you (3 times, even) not to use on hot surfaces.)
Some people use it as an aid when drying, but I've found the best results are when used on a dry surface. However, I have used it as an added lubricant when drying after a wash. I just go over it again when the car seems dry and use another (dry) mf for the final wipe.
-Mfg Claims: Does pretty much what it says it will. Slicks up the paint, leaves a nice shine (On a previously prepped surface-this won't fix your oxidation/dents/scratches/rust etc., nor does it say it will), wipes off recent water spotting, smells nice (IMO), fairly easy to use.
-Value:I think that it is a good value, when comparing it to off the shelf brands which can cost $5.00 and up for 16 oz.
-Ease of use: Spray, wipe, buff. Pretty easy. Just don't use on hot surfaces (I seem to recall reading that somewhere;) ). As the temps here have been hovering between -20ºC and -40ºC, I'm having a hard time remembering what a hot surface is like.
Use on dry surfaces, or there will be streaking, and not necessarily the type that might be fun.
Other than that, it was smooth sailing.
-PH/Safety: :dunno Didn't hurt my hands/eyes/lungs. Has petroleum distillates. Says to keep out of you. I did so (kept it out of me) and am still alive.
-Traits: Orange in color, thin viscosity, smells of "Tropical oils", dries fairly quickly, which is nice if you want to do the car without waiting for drying, or buffing for lengthy times.
Over all I like it. I used it on my car 3 times and the level had barely gone lower than the neck. It dries quickly and you can feel the slickness once dry. Helps water beads run off car (if your wax isn't slick, or has lost its slickness) as well as make the beading a little smaller.
