I am about 50/50. I do mine sometimes but not all fo the time. Sometimes I just don't feel like crawling under the car and playing in oil.

I am just curious as to how many of you do it yourself.

I CAN change my oil (one of only a few things I can do) but I usually take mine to my mechanic. $25 is more than worth it to me. If I figure in going to the store getting oil and filter, driving home, trying to find where the heck I left the jack stands ect, crawling under the car, busting my knuckles a few times and then trying to become a double-jointed contortunist trying to get the oil filter wrench onto the filter...after all said and done I realize everytime that hey my mechanic could have done all those things for $25...

Our minivan meet the Jiffy Lube or Valvoline. It is just a real PITA to get at the filter, and it is so low to the ground you either have to jack it up or put it on ramps. Either way it just sucks.

My truck, I take it to the dealership since it is still under warranty. If there is a problem then it is there a$$. Besides they keep sending me coupons for 20 oil changes, can't beat the price. Since it's there I always find a warranty item or two for them to fix.

I always do my own, I don't trust people working on my car unless absolutly needed. I did my clutch, timing belt and water pump so far on my integra.

That is why I only take my car to my mechanic. I dont trust the $10 p/hr quikie lube places...the only time my wife took our old car ('01 Tiburon) they told my wife that the head gasket was leaking and they could fix it for $250  needless to say after a phone call (I am surprised I didnt get arrested...)I vowed never to go back to any of them again.

I did the first oil change on the Impreza this past weekend. I had to use a freaking breaker bar to get the drain plug loose and the oil filter was on super tight as well. After doing the oil change, getting oil all over myself, tools and driveway I asked myself...Why do I do my own oil changes? Next time I am runnign synthetic though and that is MUCH cheaper to do yourself than to go to the quicky lube.

I used to, If I still had a garage I probably would still, but I hate doing it in the driveway with all of the spectators. I spent 2 years finding an oil change place I liked. I sent girls to a bunch of them, paying for 1/2 of the cost myself, to see which places would rip off chicks and which would give them a fair deal. I figured if the give the girls a fair deal they will def. give me one too. Needless to say, there are a lot of shady quickie lubes, but I found a few reliable ones.

I've always done my own changes... I wouldn't even know what to do if I had to go to one of those oil change places :D

I love oil changes on the jeep.. No jacks required.

That's why I'm keeping the jeep around.. just for the easy oil changes :D

I just did my first oil change on the Bimmer.. the little 2.5 litre takes 7 quarts of oil  The oil filter is strange too.. it's an open element filter that sits in a cup with a top that is bolted down. It's right in front of the engine but man does that design make a mess when you're changing it!!

I find it quite interesting how obsessive the BMW world is. With each OEM filter (~$6) you get a new washer for your oil drain plug, a new washer for the filter cup bolt, a new o-ring for the bottom of the filter cup bolt and a new o-ring for the cap of the filter cup. :D

Ok, I am done doing oil changes on the ZX2. Last one I did took too long and was too messy! The freaking oil filter is in a goofy locations and hard to get to. It is in the rear close to the top of the engine. Easy to get to from the top but no room to pull the filter up so you have to drop it and get under the car and get it from below. Nest 3,000 it goes to the quick lube.

I have to change the oil on the Bimmer and the Integra. The Bimmer is due and the Integra oil is some weird shade of black. Probably from the horrible state of tune it was in for the past several months.

Eh.. Matt changed it when he owned it so I assume he put the right stuff in. Hopefully!
