What do you guys do in the winter as far as detailing? Usually I just flat out quit over the winter but I am really thinking I want to detail through winter this time. I am looking to possibly rent a garage to do all of my detailing out of but have not found anything I liked yet.

I do the "Pay & Spray" followed by a S+W wipe down. (Doesn't seem to garner as many glares as a bucket wash. ) Sometimes I'll pay the extra money and go to a pay by the minute wash bay, do the bucket wash, and follow with a spray wax.
The weather usually hits a bit above freezing and sunny at least twice through the winter, and then I do a quickie 1 step wax.
That's about all I do. (Although... the gf's step-dad just cleaned out his garage, and a car does fit in there now... :-k )

We need some enclosed/heated wash bays in this area!

Same here! Or just a garage with heat for the winter, AC in the summer and a drain... now that would be nice

My winter routine is to get some good protection on the paint (Klasse SG x2) and then wash (or QEW) when the weather is above freezing. This doesn't happen often though. When I do get it washed, I'll add some OCW atop of the SG to increase the protection a little. Other than that I try not to be too pickey. Too many times I have tried washing when it was cold out and go back inside to have my hands red and tingly... no fun. Also, having the suds freeze in your wash bucket isn't fun either :P

Do you mean personal cars of for paid work?

My p/t business is mobile. In the dead of winter I have the option of doing cars at my house.
3 car garage + warm water + 60k btu ng garage heater = no problems in winter 8)

Same here though I suspect your vehicle may be dirty by the time you get home from Utah. There's also a very good chance I would have what ever your favorite product might be on hand too. :D

My winter routine is to fill my buckets with tap water thats alittle warm to use outside. It doesn't get too terribly cold here. It keeps my hands from freezing but it could take off wax/sealant quicker but all you have to do is wax it again.

How cold does it get over in SC?

Its usually is comfortable if dressed accordingly. I would say last year it was mid 50's during winter and of course we have some cold streaks of the mid 30's to 40's as highs. Don't get me wrong thats cold but not cold enough for me to keep the ride clean. But since I posted that its not to bad I woke up this morning to the temp of 37. :? Who knows what it will be like this winter. We dont have to contend with all the salt like ya'll do up north either.

Dang Bob, if only you were a few miles north.

I have been thinking about what I am going to do once the snow rolls in so I started looking for alternatives.

I found a 4 car garage, heated, full power and all. $100 a space.. in a VERY nice area as well...lotsa wealthy customers!!

Yep, $100 a month.. I'm sure he'd give a deal if I rented more than one space... Any takers???

Here in Iowa, I layer on the Collinite 2-3 coats and hit the new touchless Car washes close to home a few times a month max.
It's has one of those laser measuring devices in it.
Takes longer to measure my car than to wash it.
But it sure works nice.

Come Jan/ Feb when we get one kinda warm day I'll hit the wash, bring the car home and fire up the small heater in my garage, let the car warm up a little and use Spray and Wash to clean any film off the surface.
Then add another coat of Collinite.

This year, my new Mazda has as an experiment the following:
Front: 3 layers of Klasse SG.
The Front doors back have 2 layers of 3M Performance Finish.
All applied Early summer and held up well.

I added a layer of IW #845 a few weeks ago.
I plan to add one more layer of IW before the weather turns bad.
My Caravan will get one to two coats of #845 over what ever is left of the Poli-Seal/AW.

FYI: The 3m Perf Finish is outstanding IMO.
Looks were close to SG.
Easy to apply.
