Any of you do it, and have you had any problems?
What do you use for dressing?
Do you cover anything?
Do you use a pressure washer?

When I do an engine detail (which is not often) I cover the fuse box . I spray WD40 on the electrical connections to repel water. I do not use a pressure washer. I usually use the "flat" setting on my nozzle. I dress with Clearkote rubber, vinyl protectant.
I have not had a problem yet (knocks on wood).

Well, what we do is this.
Spray the engine down with a citrus based cleaner and hit any nasty areas with more cleaner and a parts cleaning brush. We mainly just use the citrus based cleaner for grease and oil on the block. Then we LIGHTLY spray the block off. A cold block mind you, not a hot one. Then we dry as much as we can using a rag. Next we clean all of the top parts, like anything rubber and plastic with Spray and Wipe. After the engine is all clean we go over the rubber and plastic peices with one of a few different products. Sometimes Natural Look, sometimes, Bold N' Bright, and sometimes Trim Restore. I like Natural Look the best. Below are some pictures of a Civic that we did.

For the record.. I've never seen Bob detail an engine :D I always use Natural Look on the plastic surfaces of the engines but I start out with a good citrus degreaser to clean everything up. The last few engines I've done have been completely by hand.. no hose or anything. Just grab some rags, some degreaser and put some elbow grease into it ;)

how long did it take you to clean that?

I can't rember. I think that was the car we did that got Brad and I into wanting to sell Poorboy's though.
Brad might remember how long it took him to do it.
