Hey everyone, I just got a Brinkmann Dual Xenon light and I wanted to take pictures of my paint polishing... so here it is for all of you to enjoy

The paint is on a 1998 Jeep Wrangler, and all work was done via PC and LC 7.5" polishing pads. I'll cut to the chase and post the pictures.

First up is the top of the door-
Before:

SSR2.5 in use:

After SSR2.5

SSR1 in use:

SSR1 after:

Liquid Souveran in use:

Liquid Souveran after:

Next up was the bottom of the door which recieves a lot of abuse from shoes and other junk. It is very beat up and this doesn't represent a perfect finish, but I thought it'd only be fair to post it

After:

So what do you guys think? Not too bad, all was done within an hour, thats with not only polishing and sealing, but pictures and the trim as well. Thanks, and hopefully you enjoy the pictures .

One last picture for good measure:

Very nice budman3!! Made that orange peel really deep. Looks great. Didn't see any dusting either. You definately have the correct technique for using Poorboys

Very nice pics! The 2.5 looks LSP ready on that pic. If it is, nice job!

Yeah nice work there, the 2.5 does finish nicely for you, must be the technique and the polishing pad.

Thanks guys. These are the types of results that I get about 95% of the time when working with the SSRs. No dusting either .

How do you get to no dusting, when 1 of the major complaints about SSR's are the tons of crap you get?

Well I personally see the complaints of dusting from the SSRs simply as user error. Every product has different characteristics and the results depend on how the user uses them. You can't use Optimum Polish the same as SSR2.5. Below is a list that I wrote which covers how I use the SSRs and do not recieve any dusting:

-Always use a polishing pad with SSR2.5 (it'll remove a ton of swirls, if not do another pass or bump up to another product)
-DO NOT PRIME WITH ANYTHING OTHER THAN THE PRODUCT ITSELF (very crucial)
-Apply a thin bead of product around the pad for each section of the car
-Spread it at whatever speed you want, work it in at Speed 6.... don't be afraid of speed 6.
-Work it in until very clear (may take a few minutes)
-If the product begins to build up on the pad, brush off with stiff brush or wipe off excess polish with a terry cloth towel
-Wipe off
-Admire no swirls
-Go to finer polish (if needed- with the polishing pad you most likely don't NEED to follow up but it wouldn't hurt).
-Do not use a new pad that hasn't been washed- Pads come from the factory with small foam particles left in the pad that look like product dust.

So budman, what polishes do you even use most the time? Do you ever use the other ssr's? What about other brands? have you compared them the the 2.5 and found they don't stack up? Just curious.

With the PC I've used all of the PB SSRs, Optimum Hyper Compound & Polish, High Temp Light Cut, Pinnacle XMT 1 & 2, Menzerna IP and FP, Megs #9, 3M SMR, Mother's PowerPolish...

The Optimum line worked well via PC but was a bear to remove because of all of the oils in the products. It makes for longer work-in time but the effort needed to remove wasn't worth it. The High-Temp light cut produced great results (final polish) but was also a tad difficult to remove- the towel grabbed into the paint moreso than other polishes. Megs #9 and 3M SMR are loaded with fillers and XMT line is failry weak. XMT1 did nothing for swirls and dusted pretty bad. XMT2 is nice, looks good, easy to work with but a very fine swirl remover. The Menzerna IP is nice but I prefer it with the rotary. Menz FP is very weak with the PC as well. Removal is a little tricky. I like the Optimum line of polishes with the rotary along with Menzerna IP...

So, you rather go with SSR's than any other polish?

With the PC they are my go-to polish (out of the polishes that I have, listed above). I usually use SSR2.5 and then follow up with either SSR1, PwC blue, PwS, or another fine polish, or just go straight to LSP, depending on the finish.

Thanks for the info budman, I've heard that the xmt 2, 3, and 4 are close competitors to the SSR PB's line. But I hear they dust...course that's what most say about PB's too. :?:
