Nice! I hope you actually own it now before flaunting it
Looks real clean! How many miles?

Until you get your M class cert, IMO I would desticker the purple and paint the wheels black 8) I would also look into frame sliders in case it gets dropped.

Bob

Yeah, it is mine for sure this time!

It has like 13,000 miles on it.

The black paint for the wheels is coming for sure. I need to figure out how to get the wheels off and get some new rubber on them anyway. I figured that would be a good time to paint.

As for the stickers, some are under the clear. I need to look at it better to figure out which ones can go easily though.

I changed the oil last night and removed the decals while I was waiting for the old oil to drain. Looks much better now. The lower fairing has a "Ninja" decal that seems to have clear coat over it so I am looking to get that painted. Tonight the gas tank comes off and the plugs get changed! WOO WOO!

Did you test ride it?

Bob

Nope. I will after I do the plugs tonight though.

I'll keep this thread going like sort of a project blog.
Last night I pulled out the rear fender and ordered a fender eliminator kit. That should be here next week. My next project is to mount brake lights in the empty sockets, on both sides of the main brake light, and add a brake flasser kit to them.

The Mod bug bites quick on bikes, doesn't it
Although modding the bike before riding it even once is a new record  x2

Bob has to get some kind of bug. His detailing product bug became such a problem he owns his own store now. Watch out the next thing with be Bobs cycle shop. Hey its nice to have a hobby to put cash into.

Funny you should mention that! LMAO There is a newer bike company just building ground in the US and there are no dealers close to me. The thought crossed my mind for about a half second.

I decided against the brake light flasher for now and I am going to start with just adding two more brake lights and brighter bulbs.

I manually flash my brakes as needed right now, it has worked out ok so far...

Ok, this weekend I pulled the wheels off, cleaned and scuffed up them up and painted them black. No more purple wheels. I also ordered a set of Bridgstone BT45 tires for it. Hopefully the bike is all put back together by the end of next week.

Something that would be cool to see on that is to wrap certian areas in carbon fiber. Or failing that, use some of this stuff. Carbon Fiber 2 Vinyl (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=007&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=170125100842&rd=1,1) I just bought about 8 feet of this stuff to play with. :) I'm going to wrap my pool table in it if I can't find anything else to use it for. lol I was thinking about wrapping the center console of my Reflex with it to help avoid scuffing it up. I can see this looking really sharp in certian places on your bike. You just cut it to size and then use a hair dryer to 'shrink wrap' around the contours and fold up underneath. I wrapped the side skirts of my Integra with similar stuff and it has lasted for more than a few years without any problems. This new stuff looks even better than what I have used in the past. This stuff actually looks real.

Well not to be outdone.....I replaced my chain this week with a DID x ring 525 gold chain. VERY bling  and gaudy, I love it! My old chain was unevenly stretched and making scary noises.
Bob-if you ever need your chain done, you know who to call :P
Nevermind the filthy wheel, the new chains come with a pound of grease that flings off within 5 miles.

Bob
06-26-2007, 09:10 AM
That stuff DOES look real Anthony! I want to see it on yours first! LOL

Steve,
I was thinking of doing my chain because it doesn't seem to have been taken care of and it kinks easily. According to what I was reading online I should replace it. I was going to see what Rosenau Powersports wanted but if you want to do it maybe we could barter services / products? Where did you get your chain at? I want the cheapest I can find for this bike! LOL

There are 2 main ways to check the chain:

1. If the slack in the chain varies a good bit as you turn the wheel, the chain is stretched unevenly. Also, you can count out, say, 20 rivets and measure the distance between them. Then rotate the wheel some and take a couple more measurments in different places. If it's more than 1/16" off (mine was 1/8" in places) it's stretched unevenly.
2. If there are links that are binding and/or the wheel does not spin freely at certain points of the chain.

If your chain is original at 13k miles, I would definately replace it (it's kinda important  ). I would love to help you out. I was thinking of paying a shop $120 labor to do it, I'm glad I didn't. And they want you to drop it off, blah blah...

I got my chain kit here:
http://www.sprocketcenter.com/p/257860/did-525vm2-chain-steel-sprocket-kit---suzuki-sv-650s-99-06---15---45.html

Real good place to order from. I would recommend this chain, D.I.D is good stuff (or get oem if you want to be boring  ), you need to find out if your bike chain is a 520 or 525 pitch to order, and also how many links, and the teeth on the sprokets (I did not change the teeth at all, I like my stock ratios). Definately get new sprockets (get steel, not aluminum) along with the chain (replace as a set). Just make sure to get a chain with a rivet style master link (NOT a clip on master link). I have the rivet tool we can use if you do not want to buy it. It's the $50 one on their site. And.....buy an extra master link for $6, just in case.

lmk when/if you wanna change it out 8) Takes about 2 hours, 3 if we're slow.

I didn't know chains where pushing $200!

wifehatescar
06-26-2007, 11:23 AM
Well, for a nice one, and sprokets. The chain itself is ~$100. If the old one is toast, it is unsafe to drive on it potentially.

That is the front sprocket I need so I guess 520 is what I need for the chain and rear sprocket? Are the sprockets universal or something?

wifehatescar

Maybe check on the price of an oem chain?

Bob
06-26-2007, 11:59 AM
$80 at Rosenau. They have one in stock so I might go get it tonight. Do I NEED to replace the sprockets as well?

Bob
06-26-2007, 12:34 PM
Steve,
I am bidding on a chain, and both sprockets on ebay. They are OEM off of a 2007 Ninja iwhr 2 miles on the bike.

Need? Mayby not (although look at the teeth on your sprockets for wear).
But I would replace anyway. Worn sprokets could cut the life of your new chain in half, which would be a waste.

Mine looked fine at 11.5k miles, but I did them anyway.

Your chain should have 520 or 525 stamped on it as well.

Is it a cut chain or still in a loop?
If it is cut you will need a master link. If in a loop, do you have to drop the swingarm to swap it in? Or would you cut it and use a masterlink?

Bob
06-26-2007, 01:51 PM
it is still in the loop. The swing arm seems easy to drop and it should be greaded anc checked every 6K anyway.

wifehatescar
06-26-2007, 02:20 PM
In that case you could probably do the chain easy.
When you buy new chain it's not looped so you have to link it together, which is the "hard" part, although it's not bad anyway.

Bob
06-26-2007, 02:30 PM
Do you have to cut the chain to length as well or are they made for the bike without modifying the chain?

wifehatescar
06-26-2007, 02:37 PM
The place I bought from, you specify the number of links and they cut it. A dremel and cutoff wheel does the job in 30 seconds I found out, cause I had to cut the old chain off.

See... now that whole conversation is why I ride shaft drive bikes. The Reflex is a belt driven bike, which is sort of the compromise. If it were a chain drive then I wouldn't have gotten it. Way too much maintanance and too much headache. I understand when it isn't an option, but man what a pain in the arse.

Bob
06-27-2007, 10:02 AM
Do they make shaft driven sport bikes?

On that note, a friend of my father in laws bought a new Star 650. For $5000 it might be my next bike! Very sweet ride for sure....and shaft driven so Anthony could ride bitch with me if he wanted. BAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHA!

I wouldn't call 2 hours work every 10-20k miles a PITA...
The main "pain" is cleaning and lubing every 600 miles, but it only takes 10 minutes.

WOO WOO! Got a brand new OEM chain, front and rear sprocket for $85 shipped on ebay! The guy bought a 2007 Ninja 250, took it back to his bike shop and totally stripped it and is selling everything off part by part. He wanted to see if he could make some money that way I guess. Anyway, can't wait to get them and get the bike back together!

Here are pics of the bike complete, minus the lower fairing which I installed 2 minutes ago.

Yeah, new chain and sprockets are on and those are new tires. The old tires where shot. Those on there now are Bridgestones
